Headnotes Submission Guidelines

Headnotes currently publishes Response pieces twice a year (Fall and Spring). The Minnesota Law Review will consider for publication any piece responding to any recent Article, Essay, or Note appearing in our print volume. There is no specific submissions window for Headnotes Response pieces.

The general format for a Response piece is that of a short essay, 1500–4000 words and lightly footnoted, responding to a particularly timely or novel piece from one of our recent print issues. A cover sheet should indicate the original piece being responded to, the total number of words in the Response (including text and footnotes), and the number of words in text alone. Citations should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (18th ed. 2005).

The Minnesota Law Review strongly prefers electronic submissions in Microsoft Word format. Responses can be submitted through the form below, via email to mnlawrev@umn.edu, or by mailing a manuscript to:

Minnesota Law Review
University of Minnesota Law School
Walter F. Mondale Hall, Room 285

Unfortunately, mailed manuscripts cannot be returned. Submissions and related inquiries may be addressed to the attention of online editor David Couillard.

Publication Agreements

The Minnesota Law Review offers publication agreements that conform to Open Access Law Journal principles, which give authors great freedom to distribute their works. Please view our model publication agreement for further information.
